Blackberry Storm Case
Blackberry Storm Case
OtterBox Commuter Series
for BlackBerry Storm
It Really Protects Cell Phones

by Ella Patterson, Global One Editor

Almost every cell phone I own has been beaten up by bumps, drops, slips and falls; until I was introduced to OtterBox protective cell phone cases. I have always adored small phones because I could easily hide them in my pocket, my purse or maybe in my bra while I was walking or grocery shopping.

I hate to admit it, but I have slowly accepted the fact that I drop cell phones on a regular basis. I beat them up from my day-to-day use and I loose them in the bottom of purse. I use to think that having a phone was a hassle. So, when I was introduced to the idea of using a protective case I jumped at the chance to do it.

I must admit the OtterBox case has helped me in more ways than one. I'm able to find my phone quicker and easier, and I haven’t dropped it once since I put the
OtterBox CommuterSeries for the BlackBerry Storm on my phone.

Before you drop another Blackberry you may want to order your very own OtterBox Protective Case.  OtterBox Products have designed waterproof cases for more than a decade, and they have two lines that still offer protection from the elements. They make it easier to use the devices they are manufactured to hold. "

The OtterBox is for those types who need intense protection from rain, dirt or mountain range drops. The Defender Series shields dust, dirt and drops in a thinner design for active folks who don't want the added bulk.

The OtterBox Commuter™ Series case for the BlackBerry® Storm™ offers the best of both worlds; incorporating elements from the rugged Defender Series™ line with the silicone, skin-like Impact Series™ line to create a slick case designed with your style in mind. It's protection without the bulk. The exposed silicone corners dissipate impact away from the device for additional bump and shock protection and the smooth outer layer allows the case to easily slide into your pocket or purse. All buttons are fully functional through the case and the audio jack and USB port are accessible through silicone plugs.

Includes: Self-adhering clear protective film, microfiber cleaning cloth and installation card.

OtterBox 1930 Case For Blackberry 8700

by Ella Patterson DeSoto, TX

Okay lets face it, many people who own a Blackberry have rough, tough dirty jobs. That's why I had to let one of our team members use it for a few days, then he reported back to me. I sit in an office fulfilling product requests, and my team member works in construction. He's a weekend warrior who can't stand the idea of being without his Blackberry so he got a chance to use the 1930 Protective OtterBox case.

Introducing the OtterBox for the BlackBerry 8700. OtterBox manufactures cases for almost every mobile device there is and I was happy to get my hands on one of their 1930 models for the Blackberry 8700 case.

Installation

Lifting the latching mechanism on the back of the case allows the OtterBox to split in two.  A groove inside of the box allows the BlackBerry to fit snuggly into place, and ensures proper alignment when the box is resealed. The w
ater-tight nubs on the OtterBoxs sides and keyboard align with the Berry keyboard and side buttons. It was a perfect fit.

Usage
Using the OtterBox with the 8700 is very easy even though it felt a little bulky in my hands. This protective case is best used by an active person. I could hear the ringer
clearly, and the keypad was accessible and responded well to my usage.  The thumbwheel was challenging at first because it was new, but once I used it a few times it worked smoothly.  The screen is very clear and I found that my phone worked well within its new suit of armor.

The case is incredibly tough, and even though the OtterBox website tells you not to submerge your OtterBox, our tests indicated that the box works very well under water for short period s of time.

  • Some of our test were:
My team member actually placed the otterbox on the ground and jumped on it a few times. It withstood his 275 pound beating. I think he was more worn out than the case.

The Otter Box is the perfect BlackBerry accessory for anyone who includes a hard-hat as part of their normal work attire.  It's also the perfect accessory for the  weekend-warrior who wants to stay connected while getting their hands dirty.
If you ever want to take your BlackBerry to a construction site, a marine environment, wear it while landscaping, playing sports, climbing poles, camping,  or driving off-road,  the OtterBox is for you.

As a final note, we really wanted to see how the OtterBox would standup to a moving car running over it and surprisingly it did. It came out just fine.

    Pros -
Water tight.  Super rugged.   Scratch resistant screen.   Light weight

  • Cons -
    Bulky. and a little oversized.

Comments from consumers:  It looked like a Walkie Talkie.

BlackBerry Curve Users Protection Help Is Available

Texas, June 2008 - Following the success of their Defender Series case for the
BlackBerry 8800, OtterBox has released the Defender Case for the BlackBerry Curve. Rugged and durable, no other case on the market offers the level of BlackBerry protection like an OtterBox does.

The Defender case is offered in two colors, a yellow and black combo which is featured in this review, as well as an all-black version. You can pick either up from
Otter Box.com for $49.95. Regardless of the color you choose, you won’t worry a bit knowing your beloved BlackBerry Curve is well-protected.
Several Layers of Protection

The OtterBox Defender comes with a several layers of protection for your Curve. The first step to getting your BlackBerry protected is to put on the thermal formed protective clear membrane which acts as a safeguard for the screen and keyboard against scratches, dust and dirt. It somewhat tricky to get the layer on, but just line up the trackball first, and try to apply the screen smoothly to avoid air bubbles. The clear membrane is optional, so if you’re more worried about dropping your BlackBerry than it getting dirty, you can leave it off.

Next Step is to apply the lower portion of the hi-impact polycarbonate shell, and then snap on the top cover. This cover provides the bulk of the protection for your BlackBerry in the case that it accidentally gets dropped or stepped on.

Next, there is the silicon skin that goes over top of the shell. The Silicon acts as a bumper to absorb bumps and shocks. It will also hold the two pieces of your shell together, as well as provide extra grip when handling the case.

Using the OtterBox

The Defender case feels sturdy in ones hand, and the silicon skin offers a nice solid grip to the package. The case does not interfere with controls and still made typing on the Curve’s keyboard easy. I had full use of the Camera, and access plugs for charging/syncing so I didn’t need to take your BlackBerry Curve out of the case to charge it.

The Defender also comes with a belt clip holster. The proper way to use that would be to have your BlackBerry screen facing towards you, thus protecting the screen. As always, OtterBox's BlackBerry holster does contain that all-important magnet, so it puts your BlackBerry into standby/sleep mode when inserted.
The OtterBox case provides an extreme level of protection most common jobs would throw at it. I was so confident in the protection it provided, as a test I dropped my Blackberry curve out of my moving car and no harm was done. Don’t try this with your BlackBerry – OtterBox doesn’t guarantee the safety of your BlackBerry for that level of abuse and won't replace your device if you call them and say you read my article and then tried to test it yourself!  Lastly, you need to understand that this case is not meant to be used underwater. It will offer some protection against water and dust, but don’t expect it to protect your Curve if it falls in water.

Reminder

It's not indestructible but it's tough and provides high level protection. It had a nice look too. I got more men complimenting me on the case than women so that lets me know it has a man’s feel. Pricing for the OtterBox Curve Protection case comes in at $49.95 per unit, which is reasonable considering it is the only case on the market that will offer this kind of durable protection for your BlackBerry Curve.

A Little OtterBox History

OtterBox Cases Began With A BOX

Mastermind and CEO Curt Richardson, with his 25 years experience in tooling and molding wanted to build a company that was distinct and structured upon innovation and evolution. In 1996, OtterBox was born.
Our cases are dedicated to all the klutzy, spontaneous, chaotic, graceless individuals who have broken a device or valuable due to their active lifestyle. Like our customers, we've been there too! From the beginning, we have protected valuables through innovation. This “innovative spirit” has allowed evolution in our product lines to safeguard the hottest technologies such as iPod's, smartphones, PDA's, Tablet PC's, laptops and other devices. We take the idea of a protective case to the next level so customers can find the ideal solution for any work environment or adventure!
Ok, rewind a bit to the name origination, we know you're wondering. On a drive to Denver, Curt and his wife Nancy were brainstorming company names. The name needed to be exciting and something people wouldn't forget. They wanted “box” to be in the name, but also wanted to incorporate “water” because the original OtterBox case line is waterproof (oceanic tidbit: an Otter's fur has a waterproof quality). Because of their fun, playful disposition “Otter” was the perfect fit! Well, the name stuck and we have to admit our logo is pretty darn cute too!
OtterBox is located in one of the greatest cities in America and no we're not completely bias, see Money Magazine's 2006 rating for Best Places to Live. Yes, Fort Collins, Colorado is ranked #1. With easy access to the mountains for biking, hiking, running, camping, skiing, snowboarding and other activities, many of us use our cases everyday. We also serve as excellent “guinea pigs” for new product testing.
We're a fun, hard working, creative bunch that enjoy a good laugh and a good beer, especially come Friday. We have in-house sales, customer service, engineering, public relations, marketing, web design, graphics and even our own warehouse. The OtterBox for BlackBerry® Curve
